40 Shot Tigers Challenge
This is a challenge we have developed in order to get our junior golfers out on the course and playing golf for real. The idea of this challenge is to give the young golfers a personal goal and encourage them to improve. Each child should start on the first tee with 40 shots and play the course as normal. Once the 40th shot is played, the position of their ball should be marked on the special Tigers scorecard and handed it into our reception desk. Every time the child plays the course they can try to beat their personal best. Once the Tiger is able to complete all 6 holes in 40 shots we will provide them with a ‘Tigers Handicap’. The table below shows how this system works.
Once the child has completed the 40 Shot Tigers Challenge above, they are issued with a ‘Tigers Handicap’. Each time the child plays the course, they can hand is their completed scorecard with the opportunity of reducing their ‘handicap.’
It is important to stress, this is open to ANY child. They DO NOT need to be a member of our Tigers classes to take part in our ‘Getting on Course’ initiative. We simply want to see kids out on the course, having fun and handing in a scorecard.
Cost – £4 green fee (current Tigers class members play for FREE).
40 Shot Challenge
Pick up a ‘Tigers Scorecard’ and go and play. Once the golfer has played 40 shots they should mark on the card with an X, the point at which the 40th shot finished. The golfer can try to improve on their score as many times as they like.
As seen in the example card below (click to enlarge), Rory reached Hole 5, position B. Once finished, the card should be returned to reception where we will record the golfers best result on our notice board.
40 Shot Challenge Completed
Once the golfer has managed to complete the full course in 40 shots for the first time you must hand in the completed scorecard to us at reception. Based on the score, we will provide the golfer with their first HANDICAP!!
Below (click to enlarge), Rory shot a 39 (21 over par). His first handicap would be 21 (21.0).
Get Your Handicap Down!!
Just like an adult, each golfer will get the opportunity to reduce their handicap each time they play. A reduction of 0.3 will be made for every stroke they beat their handicap by.
For example, as seen below (click to enlarge), Rory has a handicap of 21 (21.0) and shoots a gross score of 33, minius his handicap of 21 giving him a NET score of 12. This is 6 under par. Therefor Rory’s handicap will be reduced by 6 x 0.3 (1.8) giving him new handicap of 19 (19.2).
