Our Annual Junior Open was held on a beautiful morning on Sunday 21st August. We had a total of 38 kids take part, aged between 5 and 12 years old. There ware some fantastic scores on the day, none more so than that of 6 year old Jack Small who returned a superb 24 for the 6 holes played which won him the Under 7 prize and was also the 2nd best score from anyone from all the age groups – Jack Small remember that name!! Winning the Under 10 age group was Oliver Band and Kieran Herd both with scratch 24’s while the best score of the day came from Justin Shek, winning the Under 13 age group with a fabulous 22!!
Well done to all the prizewinners and also to everyone who took part.
We would also like to thank all parents for helping out on the day.

Our annual competition was held on Saturday 7th June. We had an excellent entry as always for this popular event with Farrell & Mathew Dewer coming out on top with a great score of 45 on the new longer course layout this year. In second place, only losing out on better inward half to the Dewer pair was James and Callum Dunn.

The shot of the day came from our 6 year old star of the future Jack Small ripping one here over the water at the 5th hole. MUST WATCH!!
Sunday 12th June was a miserable day. A dreich, damp, cold and wet day. We had received a record entry into this event with 54 teams of 2 taking part. When I woke on Sunday I looked out of the window and saw a wet, drizzlie, depressing looking morning. I headed down to Wellsgreen wondering if people would want the event to go ahead. Would kids, aged between 4 and 11, really want to venture out onto the course in these horrible conditions? Well, the answer was a definite YES!! The first few teams arrived around an hour before the start desperate to hit some practice balls and have some putts before tee off. We started them off with a shotgun at 9.30am and after 2 hours of constant drizzle and at times heavier spells of rain they were done. Soaking wet, scorecards drenched but still happy. They had had a ball!! The next group teed off at 11.30 and then a final shotgun start at 1.30pm. The weather remained constant for the whole of the day but everyone seemed to enjoy the event – especially the kids!!
Anyway, as for the golf itself, we had some great scores. In the morning round Gordon Blyth and his partner Fraser (8) managed a score of 42 which lead the way for most of the day. Philip and Cameron Arnold (7), Max Hogarth and partner, and Mark and Ryan King (11) all returned excellent 46′s but, embarrassingly enough, the best score of the day was made by myself and my daughter Katie (9) with a 40!!
